How to play

  1. 1Tap a coded cell to select it, then tap a keyboard letter to assign that value; the selection auto-advances to the next cell.
  2. 2Use the crib: the two most frequent cipher letters come pre-solved, and the same cipher letter always shows the same letter.
  3. 3If two cipher letters get the same plaintext letter, the conflict warning lights up; fix it before moving on.
  4. 4Finish the whole phrase; your efficiency score rises the less time and fewer hints you spend.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or to pay?
No. Codebreaker runs in the browser, is free, and asks for no sign-up; your progress and records are saved on your device.
What is the difference between normal mode and the Glyph variant?
In normal mode you get a crib (two letters pre-revealed) and see the cipher letters. The Glyph variant swaps the letters for abstract symbols and removes the crib, forcing you to deduce everything cold.
